| This
course aims at preparing the volunteer students for teaching the
Taiwan students basic English skills.
Through the 9-hours workshop, trainees will understand the
ways Taiwan students learn English, the differences between American
schooling and the Taiwan schooling, the curriculum to be developed,
and the strategies of helping those middle school students. |

Taiwan Schooling vs. American Schooling |
|
|
How English is taught in Taiwan middle schools – textbooks, phonic
systems |
|
What you are going to teach them: |
|
| Hints of pronunciation and spelling |
| The order of teaching language skills |
| Topics relevant to their environment – family, school, occupation,
cultural awareness, global village |
| Strategies of teaching ESL – Total Physical Response, Natural Approach |
| Teacher language and behaviors for communicating with ESL students |
